not of enough value to mail a letter any more, so to remedy the situation, the local Post
Offices have taken blocks of five "old" printed stamps and overprinted them with
a new image and a new value. The Pekingese shown above on the right
is one of these "Russian Overprints" from Bapoha. These stamps come in a
set of five different colored stamps all with the same overprint. Last time that I got in
some overprints, I assumed that they would remain available. (See sample at right) I was wrong and I never
saw more copies of those. I expect these to be equally as rare and collectable. There
is no telling how many of the overprints they produced (not many), since they were never
designed to be sold on the world market. They are of value only for a short while until
the actual stamps can be printed. On the left is the stamp that was ultimately issued
with the Pekingese image from the overprint, put out by Touva in 1999.

This Souvenir sheet from Jersey was produced in 1994 for a stamp exhibition
during the Year of the Dog. It is very unusual to find.

much other information on it, since I so seldom see one, but I love
the soft colors of the flower border and the stylistic look.

After three decades as part of the UN Trust Territory of the
Pacific under US administration, this westernmost cluster of
the Caroline Islands opted for independent status in 1978
rather than join the Federated States of Micronesia. A Compact
of Free Association with the US was approved in 1986, but not
ratified until 1993. It entered into force the following year
when the islands gained their independence.

with any set of stamps, the country issues a leading Souvenir Sheet. This is the
one that was put out with the above stamps. The Pekingese is actually considered
to be in the selvage, since the actual stamp is the part with the cats in it. To
the right is a close-up of the darling Peke.
