Great Dane stamp from Great Dane stamp from

Ajman-Manama issued these stamps "Portrait of Court Dwarf' painting by Velasquez in 1968. With the recent recognition of the Boston Marked Great Dane by the AKC, they have been more in favor and therefore far more difficult to acquire.
Ajman is the smallest of the United Arab Emirates. It is immediately to the north of and mostly surrounded by Sharjah. Like most of the country, Ajman is in the process of changes which amount to a transformation. The central area is rapidly being modernized and it is clear that Ajman has no intention of being left behind the other Emirates. It is here that the Victory speedboats are built and Ajman is determined to enjoy a share of the United Arab Emirates' victories for itself.

Great Dane stamp from Angola

This stamp from Angola was issed in 2000.
Angola is in Africa near the Congo and on the Atlantic Coast. Portuguese is the official language of the government and business, but only about 42 percent of the population of 10 million is literate, 56 percent of males and 28 percent of females. The current issues facing the country are overuse of pastures and subsequent soil erosion attributable to population pressures; desertification; deforestation of tropical rain forest, in response to both international demand for tropical timber and to domestic use as fuel, resulting in loss of biodiversity; soil erosion contributing to water pollution and siltation of rivers and dams; inadequate supplies of potable water. Angola is a developing country at war, and civil unrest has been ongoing since the country's 1975 independence from Portugal.

Great Dane stamp from Belarus

After seven decades as a constituent republic of the USSR, Belarus attained its independence in 1991. It has retained closer political ties to Russia than any of the other former Soviet republics. Belarus and Russia signed a treaty on a two-state union on 8 December 1999 envisioning greater political and economic integration. Although Belarus agreed to a framework to carry out the accord, serious implementation has yet to take place. Belarus is located in Eastern Europe, east of Poland. Belarus is slightly smaller than Kansas. The climate is cold winters, cool and moist summers; transitional between continental and maritime. The terrain is generally flat and contains much marshland. The population of Belarus is 10,310,520. The capital is Minsk.

Great Dane stamp from Bulgaria

A lovely Harlequin headstudy issued by Bulgaria in 1970.
The Bulgars, A Central Asian Turkic Tribe, merged with the local slavic inhabitants in the late 7th century to form the first Bulgarian state. In succeeding centuries, Bulgaria struggled with the Byzantine Empire to assert its place in the Balkans, but by the end of the 14th century the country was overrun by the Ottoman Turks. Bulgaria regained its independence in 1878, but having fought on the losing side in both World Wars, it fell within the Soviet sphere of influence and became a Peoples Republic in 1946. Communist domination ended in 1990. The country is slightly larger than Tennessee. The capital is Sofia.

Great Dane stamp from Dagestan Great Dane stamp from Dagestan
Both of the above stamps are newer issues from Dagestan in 2000.
Dagestan is one of the republics of the former USSR. Located between the Caspian Sea on the East and Caucasus mountains on the West, it is probably one of the most attractive places in that part of the globe. Its area is close to that of Scotland. With population of just above 2 million people, Dagestan is the homeland to over 36 different nationalities, and each one of those nationalities has its own unique language. Such combination of languages, cultures, types of landscape and customs makes it a one of a kind place in the world. These days, however, Dagestan is going through the times of heavy unrest, both political and ethnical.

Great Dane stamp from Germany

I love the artistic sense of this Harlequin from Germany that was issued in 1976.
Germany is located in Central Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, between the Netherlands and Poland, south of Denmark. It is slightly smaller than Montana. The climate is temperate and marine; cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers. The terrain consists of lowlands in north, uplands in center, Bavarian Alps in south. It has natural hazards of flooding. Some current issues: emissions from coal-burning utilities and industries contribute to air pollution; acid rain, resulting from sulfur dioxide emissions, is damaging forests; pollution in the Baltic Sea form raw sewage and industrial effluents from rivers in eastern Germany. The religions: Protestant 34%. Roman Catholic 34%, Muslim 3.7% other 28.3%. The language is German. The capital is Berlin.

Great Dane stamp from Karakalpakia Great Dane stamp from Karakalpakia

The stamps above are both from Karakalpakia, a Harlequin and a Blue, issued in 2000.
Karakalpakia, now under the domain of Uzbekistan, is on the edge of the shrinking Aral Sea, which has recently revealed a shocking scale of environmentally induced disease. Women and children are most severely affected from the spread of pesticides and other pollutants as the lake - once the fourth largest in the world - has turned into a desert, its waters siphoned off to irrigate vast cotton fields and rice paddies in Central Asia. Over 20 per cent of the young women, aged 13-19, have kidney disease, and another 23 per cent suffer from thyroid dysfunctions. And many women have high levels of lead, zinc and strontium in their blood. Although the Aral Sea probably has less than 10 years of life left, if nothing is done to salvage what remains of it, the 1.1 million residents of Karakalpakia are under immediate health threats. If nothing is done to improve the health of the people we may be witnessing the end of another entire society as a result of human folly.

Great Dane stamp from

This is one of our oldest stamps with dogs on it. It was issued by Poland in 1963.
Poland is located in Central Europe, east of Germany and is slightly smaller than New Mexico. Climate is temperate with cold, windy, cloudy, moderately severe winters with frequent precipitation; mild summers with frequent showers and thunderstorms. The terrain is mostly flat plain; mountains along the southern border; Natural resources consist of coal, sulphur, copper, natural gas, silver, lead, salt, and arable land. Natural hazard of the area is flooding. The situation has improved since 1989 due to decline in heavy industry and increased environmental concern by postcommunist governments. Historically, an area of conflict because of flat terrain and the lack of natural barriers on the North European Plain.

Great Dane stamp from Kalmykia Great Dane stamp from akhalin

The economy in Russia since the break up of the Soviet Union has such high inflation that stamps that were previously issued are not of enough value to mail a letter any more, so to remedy the situation, the local Post Offices have taken blocks of five "old" printed stamps and overprinted them with a new image and a new value. The Great Dane stamp shown above on the right is one of these "Russian Overprints" from Sakhalin. These stamps come in a set of five different colored stamps all with the same overprint. Last time that I got in some overprints, I assumed that they would remain available. I was wrong and I never saw more copies of those. I expect these to be equally as rare and collectable. There is no telling how many of the overprints they produced (not many), since they were never designed to be sold on the world market. They are of value only for a short while until the actual stamps can be printed. On the left is the stamp that was ultimately issued with the Great Dane image from the overprint, put out by Kalmykia.
Kalmykia is a republic within the Russian Federation. The Kalmyks settled the Volga River region in the seventeenth century. A Mongol people, they were originally Buddhist in faith. Annexed to Russian in 1771, a Kalmyk Autonomous Province was created by the Bolsheviks in 1920. This was abolished during the Second World War, when, in common with many other ethnic minorities, the Kalmyks were deemed to have displayed insufficient enthusiasm for fighting for Communism. The customary mass deportations followed. An Autonomous Republic was re-established in 1958.
Sakhalin is a very long but narrow island located between Japan and Russian Maritime Territory. It is separated from the continent by a narrow strait of 6 km width and for that reason, Westerners first thought it should be a peninsula. With the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin is one of the territories disputed between Japan and Russia and its belonging has not yet been definitely settled. In 1997, the local government started issuing stamps.

Great Dane stamp from Russia

These are included to show overprints from the past, in this case 1993. There was a limited number released to the outside world and then they were all gone. The originals are pretty much collector's items now. I have just a couple of copies left and not in all colors. Be sure to get a set of the new overprints. As far as I know, there were 100 of each overprint available and the small number of those that I was able to get will be gone very quickly. I have 1 red and 2 tan copies of this overprint from Russia 1993.

Touva (often spelled Tuva) is a country in the southern area of Siberia. It's a unique place with the landscapes ranging from the desert to the perma frost, and local fauna-from camels to reindeers. Touva is known as almost the only place in the world where shamanism, a very ancient religion, is preserved, kept and cultivated in its original form. This stamp was issued in 1999.

Great Dane stamp from Grenada

Disney stamps are wonderful. "Oliver & Company" is one of the most fun. Below on either side are two of the stamps on the sheet in detail showing the Great Dane. This wonderful sheet was issued by Grenada & the Grenadines for Christmas of 1981.
Great Dane stamp from Grenada Great Dane stamp from Grenada Grenada is described as a spice island, since it produces large quantities of cloves and mace and about a third of the world’s nutmeg. It also grows cacao, sugar, bananas and a wide variety of other fruit and vegetables. Some of its beaches, specially Grand Anse, a dazzling two-mile stretch of white sand, are very fine, but the rest of the island is just as beautiful, rising from a generally rugged coast to a spectacular mountainous interior. The island is green, well forested and cultivated and is blessed with plenty of rain in the wet season. Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward Islands. In contrast to other Windward Islands which have had a similar history of disputed ownership between the French and English, the French cultural influence in Grenada has completely died out. The population is very young; 38% are under 15 years old and nearly 26% are in the 15-29 years’ age bracket. Grenada has two dependencies in the Grenadines chain, Carriacou and Petit (often spelt Petite) Martinique.

Great Dane stamp from Yakutia

Great Dane stamp from Yakutia Most people know Yakutia from the game of Risk along with Kamchatka and Irikutz. Actually, Yakutia is the largest region in Siberia, known as Sasha-Yakutia. This is probably one of the most amazing mini stamps produced. There are forty breeds representated and they have managed to run a perforation line through nearly every one. Those that were missed by the holes are covered by a post mark! My, what an accomplishment. The Great Dane is shown enlarged to the left.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or paypal, but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested. We try to keep all stamps in stock, so we probably have the ones that you are looking for.

* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for your breed.
