which made stamps that had already been printed worthless for actually
mailing a letter. To buy time, they took blocks of old stamps and overprinted them
with a new image and a new value. The stamp on the right, issued by Udmurtia is
just such a Russian Overprint. They were not produced for a market outside of
Russia and are very hard to find. As far as I know, only 100 were brought out of
Russia and when they are gone, there will be no more. They come in a set of
five different colors like the sample on the right. They are of value only for a short while until
the actual stamps can be printed. The stamp on the left
was ultimately issued by with the Gordon Setter image from the
overprint from Udmurtia.

not of enough value to mail a letter any more, so to remedy the situation, the
local Post Offices have taken blocks of four "old" printed stamps and overprinted
them with a new image and a new value. The Gordon Setter shown above
is one of these "Russian Overprints" from Marjel. These stamps come in a set of
five different colored stamps all with the same overprint. Last time that I got
in some overprints, I assumed that they would remain available. I was wrong and I
never saw more copies of those. I expect these to be equally as rare and
collectable. There is no telling how many of the overprints they produced (not
many), since they were never designed to be sold on the world market. They are of
value only for a short while until the actual stamps can be printed.
Unfortunately I have been unable to acquire the stamp that was ultimately
issued.

This is one of the more unusual Gordon Setter finds that we have. The Gordon
is not the subject of any of the stamps, but is in the border instead. This
souvenir sheet is not easy to find, especially since it was issued in 1973.

Korea is a difficult country to get stamps from because the US has an embargo
against them. For this reason, the stamps that we do find typically have come
into the country in collections from Canada or some other country. This souvenir
sheet with the Pointer and Gordon was issued by North Korea in 1994 for the
Year of the Dog.
