Gallaher's De Luxe Cigarettes. On the back it says, VELHURST VIKING
"The Bull Terrier was made from the Bulldog towards the end of the 18th
century, for the Bulldog was too slow in the dog-fighting pits, although its
strength and courage were greatly to its advantage. Therefore, it was attempted
to produce a breed of dog that had some of the quick movements of the Terrier
and retained the strength and fighting powers of the Bulldog. They are
immensely strong, very agile and great fighters. The Kennel Club instituted
classes for this breed in 1877. The dog illustrated is a typical example of
the present day type and is owned by Captain S. Phillips. He is considered
to be the best headed dog bred for forty years."
