Boxer Puppy Stamps

The world has gone crazy with new Boxer stamps and it couldn't happen to a nicer breed. There are so many wonderful Boxer stamps that I have decided to separate them into pages for "Cropped" and "Uncropped", and for fun, this separate page for puppies.

Boxers have a wonderful selection of both cards and stamps from around the world.
We have broken them into four pages:
Stamps of Cropped Boxers from Around the World
Stamps of Uncropped Boxers from Around the World
Boxer Tobacco, Tea and Playing Cards

Boxer stamps from Azerbaycan

With the collapse of the Soviet empire, we are given the opportunity to have diverse new countries issuing attractive new topical stamps. These precious puppies from Azerbaycan were issued in 1996. They are listed on the stamp as Bokser. Azerbaijan is on the west side of the Caspian Sea, next to Armenia and just north of Iran. Its tragic civil war has kept it in the news for some time.

Boxer stamps from Batum

Batum is a local Russian state just south of the Black Sea, near Turkey. This lovely 'baby' was issued by Batum in 1996.
It is a Black Sea oil port at the end of an oil line. In 1878 its turbulent modern history began when it was taken by Russia from Turkey. Following the fall of the Tsar, the caucasion peoples reasserted their independence and Turkey saw its chance to win back old territory. Its troops entered Batum in april 1918. From this time date letters handstamped Batumskaya Kontora during a shortage of stamps at the Post Office and thus begins Batums philatelic history.

Boxer stamps from Bhutan

Bhutan is a tiny, landlocked country, squeezed between China and India, the world's two most populous countries. It takes its native name -- Druk Yul -- from the fierce storms that sweep down out of the Himalayan Mountains. Druk Yul means "land of the thunder dragon." Bhutan is the last surviving Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas and its deeply devout Buddhist culture bears a strong resemblance to that found in Tibet. Wary of foreign influence, Bhutan has full diplomatic ties with only 16 countries and sightseers were barred from the country until 1974. Even now, Bhutan limits the number of tourists to just 4,000 a year. I don't know where Bhutan came up with this tiny Boxer baby, but he almost isn't old enough to be a Boxer! He was our first example of a brindle Boxer pup in 1973.

Boxer stamps from Buriatia Boxer stamps from Buriatia

Our latest Russian local issues are from Buriatia. Like other local governments, they have issued some wonderful stamps in an effort to sell them to the world market and not even have to provide the associated service of mailing letters with them. This is a real boon when you see such lovely examples as these stamps put out by Buriatia in 1999.
The stamp on the right with the red chair is truly unique. Somebody obviously should not have been in the trash or other trouble.

Boxer stamps from Finland

This set of puppies was put out by Finland in 1998. It is listed as a Bokseri and the art work is apparently done by A. Jaaro. This stamp comes from a more expensive and more difficult to find set.
During World War II, Finland was able to successfully defend its freedom and fend off invasions by the Soviet Union and Germany. In the subsequent half century, the Finns have made a remarkable transformation from a farm/forest economy to a diversified modern industrial economy; per capita income is now on par with Western Europe. As a member of the European Union, Finland was the only Nordic state to join the euro system at its initiation in January 1999. It is slightly smaller than Montana. The climate of Finland is cold temperate; potentially subarctic, but comparatively mild because of moderating influence of the North Atlantic Current, Baltic Sea, and more than 60,000 lakes. The official language is Finnish. The capitol is Helsinki.

Boxer stamps from Fujeira

Fujeira is one of the seven Emirates that combined in 1974 to form the United Arab Emirates. This set of dog stamps predated that union in 1971. The name Fujeira refers to the spring of water beneath one of the mountains. Fujeira put out this set of puppies and kittens and this is one of the nicest from that set, with the darling Boxer sitting back, watching the two kittens play with the ball. The stamp is old and progressively more scarce.

Boxer stamps from Girbaltar

The island of Gibraltar off the lower point of Spain, issued an entire set of puppy stamps in six different breeds. The cutest of the bunch is the Boxer above.
Near the southern tip of Spain a peninsula forms a finger of land that points to the coast of Africa, 14 miles (23 kilometers) away. That peninsula is Britain's crown colony of Gibraltar. It includes the famous Rock of Gibraltar, which stands at the western gateway to the Mediterranean. Since 1704 when the British captured it, Gibraltar has been a fortress. It is Great Britain's chief naval base on the route through the Suez Canal to the Far East. The peninsula is about 3 miles (5 kilometers) long and less than a mile wide. Its area is 2.25 square miles (5.8 square kilometers). The rock is mostly limestone with cliffs and sandy slopes. Its greatest height of 1,396 feet (426 meters) is reached near the southern end. The city of Gibraltar, mostly on level ground on the west of the rock, lies on the deep Bay of Gibraltar. The harbor is a port of call where ships take on fuel, stores, and water. Vast reservoirs for rainwater have been blasted out of solid rock, and artesian wells have been drilled in the rock's tunnels.
The climate is Mediterranean with mild winters and warm summers.

Boxer stamps from Guinee

This was put out by the Republic of Guinea in 1996. Guinea is partial heir to the series of west African empires that, at their height before the arrival of the Europeans, cast significant political and commercial influence over many peoples from Guinea's Atlantic coast to the southern edge of the Sahara. The empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai spanned the period from about the 10th to the 15th centuries. French military penetration into the area began in the mid-19th century. Guinea became an independent republic in 1958.
At first glance, this is a wonderful little puppy stamp, but check out the background! The shadow of what that sweet little puppy will grow up to be. Beautifully done!

Boxer stamp from Karjala Boxer stamp from Karjala

These are also from a Soviet local government. This time it is Karelia, which is on the northwest corner of Russia, bordering Finland, to which it once belonged. It is a pleasure to see such nice stamps recently produced in 1997.
The Republic of Karelia is a remarkably beautiful land of white nights, boundless forests, and blue lakes. It is located on the border of Western and Eastern Europe, on the border of cultures and religions. Severe beauty of its nature, the climate, not too favourable in these latitudes, the coexistence and intermingling of various peoples inhabiting this land for centuries all that conditioned the character of the people living here: very laconic, self-assured, contemplative, and tolerant people. It also accounts for the fact that there is no national strife and terrorism in this land.

Boxer stamps from Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan produced a darling Boxer puppy in 1998. Together with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan forms a region known as Central Asia. The area of Kyrgyzstan is almost completely mountainous and is subject to major earthquakes. It declared its independence with the downfall of the Soviet Empire in 1991.

Boxer stamps from Liberia

Liberia issued this puppy stamp in 1974. Liberia is an independent republic which lies on the on the bulge of Africa between Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast. The official language of Liberia is English but several local languages are more widely spoken. In 1980 a military coup overthrew the government and led to economic mismanagement and debt. A democratically elected government was elected in 1997; however, the war had severely damaged the economy through the loss of facilities and foreign investment. For years, these were about the only puppy stamps that we could get and therefore were our standby. Now, the tables have turned and it is almost impossible to find them. When you do run across them, they are not terribly expensive, just hard to find.

Boxer stamps from Netrherland Antilles

The Netherland Antilles is a group of islands in the Caribbean. Once the center of the Caribbean slave trade, the island of Curacao was hard hit by the abolition of slavery in 1863. Its prosperity (and that of neighboring Aruba) was restored in the early 20th century with the construction of oil refineries to service the newly discovered Venezuelan oil fields. The island of Saint Maarten is shared with France; its northern portion is named Saint Martin and is part of Guadeloupe. This stamp was issued by the Netherlands-Antilles in 1995.

Boxer stamps from Sharjah

Sharjah is the third largest of the seven states, which forms the United Arab Emirates which became fully independent in 1971. From that time, it has attracted attention -- first because of its oil reserves and its strategic location but now in addition to those, because of its program of economic and social development. In the last quarter of the twentieth century, the UAE has witnessed the creation of a truly modern welfare state. Education, health care and social services are available to all citizens. This darling puppy stamp was issued in 2000, the first time that Sharjah has issued dogs stamps since 1972.

Boxer Puppy Souvenir Sheets

Boxer stamp from Solomon Islands

Although the Buff cocker Spaniel is the large head study you can't neglect the darling Boxer puppy on the stamp in the middle. He certainly stands out even tho he is smaller. These Gambia babies can't be beat. What wonderful portraits of deserving breeds. The Gambia is a long and narrow country in West Africa that parallels and takes in both sides of the Gambia River. It is surrounded by Senegal on all sides, except on the Atlantic coast, and for this reason the two countries have a lot of ethnic and cultural ties. In contrast to Senegal, a former French colony, The Gambia was colonized by Britain and gained its Independence on February 18, 1965. This souvenir sheet was put out in 2000.

Boxer stamp from Solomon Islands

This colorful souvenir sheet of a Boxer puppy with the flowers and butterfly was issued in 2000 by Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone was a British colony to which freed slaves returned in the late 1700's. After Independence in 1961 successive governments were dominated by a small political elite who exclusively profited from the lucrative trade in diamonds. Little of this national income trickled down to benefit the rest of the population. After much fighting and insurection the UN was finally convinced to send a peacekeeping force that was in the news for many months. This souvenir sheet was issued in 1997.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or a check, but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested.

* We do have discounts if you want to buy more than one.

* We have a couple of copies of some of these cards, and since they are much more fun when you have a "set", we would be happy to give a discount for multiple purchases. This can make a set of interesting breed cards quite reasonable. Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for your breed.
