This "Golden Fleece Australian Pedigree Dogs" swap
card (36 cards in the complete set) was issued in 1972.
The back of the card has the following description:
"The Australian Terrier is a sturdy, low-set dog,
extremely active and full of courage. His cleverness,
loyalty and pleasant nature makes him a good
companion and housedog. He is also capable of
"going to ground" when hunting, typical of the
Terrier breeds.
The body is rather long in relation to height.
With a definite ruff around the neck, the dog has
a harsh coat usually blue and tan or red and sandy.

Australian Terrier Card 1(Golden Fleece, Australia, 1972)... $7.95 each
Gallaher issued this lovely card in 1938. This was
the "Dogs 2nd Series" and the Australian Terrier
was No. 22 in the series. The following is printed
on the back of the card: "Almost all breeds of
dogs have been evolved for a purpose, and are
often very local in origin. Australia possesses
characteristic varieties of Sheepdog and Terrier.
The latter which we illustrate here was evolved
by experiment from several cross-breedings. It will
be seen from our picture that his coat is rather
long for a small dog, and he may have blue, silver,
grey and rich tan on the different parts of him".
Australian Terrier Card 2(Gallaher, 1938)... $9.95 each
Weeties "Favourite Dogs-New Zealand" were
enclosed in 'Crispies' and "Vitabrits". The
set of 32 cards was issued in 1940. The back
of the card has the following description: The
Australian Terrier is derived from the English
Black and Tan, the Cairn and the Yorkshire Terrier tribe.
He is a tenacious dog full of fight and what he
lacks in size, he makes up in courage. A bright,
active and intelligent dog with smooth silky hair,
he makes a good companion for children".
Australian Terrier Card 3(Favourite Dogs, New Zealand, 1940)... $24.95 each
Australian Terrier Playing Cards
Sorry, we don't have any complete sets of playing cards. These were
from collections of antique cards and there is no way of knowing how
old they are or where one might find more of them. They are certainly
a part of Australian Terrier history.
* We can take visa/mc/disc or paypal, but they are first come first served,
so let me know if you are interested.
* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for
club trophies as well!)
* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these cards at very
reasonable prices. On the other hand, if
you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may
find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always
count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and
the stock is not always constant.
* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for
your breed.
