Silky Terrier Stamps

Silky Terrier stamp from Bhutan

Bhutan is a tiny, landlocked country, squeezed between China and India, the two most populous countries. It takes its native name -- Druk Yul -- from the fierce storms that sweep down out of the Himalayan Mountains. Druk Yul means "land of the thunder dragon." Bhutan is the last surviving Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas and its deeply devout Buddhist culture bears a strong resemblance to that found in Tibet. Wary of foreign influence, Bhutan has full diplomatic ties with only 16 countries and sightseers were barred from the country until 1974. Even now, Bhutan limits the number of tourists to just 4,000 a year.

Silky Terrier stamp from Buriatia

Buriatia is in southern Siberia near Lake Baykal on the Mongolian border and such the Buryat people are Buddhists as well.
The collapse of the Soviet Union has created a gold mine for stamp collectors. The local governments have issued some wonderful stamps in an effort to sell them to the world market and not even have to provide the associated service of mailing letters with them. This is a real boon when you see such lovely examples as this stamp put out by Buriatia in 1999.

This stamp was put out in 2001.
The Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria is a federal subject of the Russian Federation located in the northern Caucasus mountains, with plains in the northern part. The Kabardian lands have been under Russian protectorate since 1557. In 1739 Kabardia became independent and 1774 became part of the Russian empire. Balkaria was annexed in 1827. In 1944, Stalin accused the Balkars of collaborating with Nazi Germany and deported the entire population. The Territory was renamed the Kabardin ASSR until 1957, when the Balkar population was allowed to return and its name was restored.

Silky Terrier stamp from Mongolia

For a long time, this was our only representative of a Silky on a stamp. It was put out in 1991 by Mongolia. It is often misidentified as a Norfolk Terrier or a Yorkshire Terrier, but the intention was that it be a Silky. We will take their word for it.
Mongolia is located in Northern Asia, between China and Russia. It is slightly smaller than Alaska. The climate is desert, large daily and seasonal temperature ranges. The Gobi Desert is located in the south-central region. Mongolia has dust storms, grassland and forest fires, drought, and "zud" which is harsh winter conditions. The people have limited natural fresh water resources in some areas. The capital is Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia achieved its independence from China July 11, 1921. The unemployment rate is 20%. Mongolia is totally landlocked, therefore economic activity traditionally has been based on agriculture and breeding of livestock.

Silky Terrier stamp from Tararstan

Tatarstan is a local state in the former Soviet Union. Its capital is Kazan, which like Rome stands on seven hills. This is a country of ancient people and country whose names, though familiar, are shrouded in misconceptions. The people are the Kazan Tatars; the country is Tatarstan. Situated, as a result of historical circumstances, in the very heart of Russia, only eight hundred kilometres to the east of Moscow, this is a multi-national republic that occupies the area between the Volga and the Ural Mountains. The Tatars have their own language, their own culture, their own age-old traditions and festivals, their own faith, but their past has been and remains intertwinted with the history of Russia in the most dramatic and sometimes fateful way. It has only been recently that they have been allowed to issue their own stamps and these are some of the first ones offered by that country.

Tatarstan is one of the former Russian states along the Volga River. It has been independent since 1994, but even a thousand years ago, it was known as Islam's Northern Mecca. The set of stamps that this Australian Silky Terrier is from was issued in 2001 and was just the first of several new sets from that country.

Silky Terrier stamp from Grenada

Silky Terrier stamp from Grenada Grenada is described as a spice island, since it produces large quantities of cloves and mace and about a third of the world’s nutmeg. It also grows cacao, sugar, bananas and a wide variety of other fruit and vegetables. Some of its beaches, specially Grand Anse, a dazzling two-mile stretch of white sand, are very fine, but the rest of the island is just as beautiful, rising from a generally rugged coast to a spectacular mountainous interior. The island is green, well forested and cultivated and is blessed with plenty of rain in the wet season. Grenada is the most southerly of the Windward Islands. In contrast to other Windward Islands which have had a similar history of disputed ownership between the French and English, the French cultural influence in Grenada has completely died out. The population is very young; 38% are under 15 years old and nearly 26% are in the 15-29 years’ age bracket. Grenada has two dependencies in the Grenadines chain, Carriacou and Petit (often spelt Petite) Martinique.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or paypal, but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested.

* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

I do have other breeds available. Let me know and maybe I'll do a page for your breed.
