Carrerras 'Dogs and Friend' were issued in 1936.
Isn't it a lovely photograph? 'A picture is worth a
thousand words'! Shown on the back:
"The Samoyed is a dog of the frozen plains and a very
remarkable personality. Like all Northern breeds he is
independent, because for generations he has had to judge
weather conditions, etc., for himself, as man has depended
upon him for guidance. He is extraordinarily beautiful,
with snow-white coat and black eyes. Being a "tribal" dog
he adores children and company, having been used to the
nomad's tent and the life of a herd dog."
Samoyed Card 4(Carreras Dogs and Friend, 1936)... $4.95 each
This beautiful drawing is done by artist Lucy Dawson, described
by her on the back of the card and enclosed in Wills cigarettes
packages. These cards were originally issued in 1940, but
due to the paper shortage very few were printed. An
authorized reproduction was issued in 1990. The card
shown is one of the reprints. The following is printed on the back of the card:
"Luckily these triplets do not live in London, or they would
not be so white or look so beautiful. They were not like
the Samoyed I saw recently in Hyde Park, which appeared
almost black as the sheep grazing there during the summer
months. These dogs are all very beautiful, and have sweet
natures."
Samoyed Card 5(Wills Puppies by Dawson reissue, 1990)... SOLD OUT

of 10 cigarettes put out by Player & sons. The back of
the card has the following:
"The Samoyed (prounced Sam-o-yad) is closely associated with
dwellers in North-East Russia and Western Siberia, where he
is employed as a guard, also for herding reindeer and for
hunting. He is one of the oldest breeds in existence, and
is most useful as well as being beautiful and interesting.
Resembling an Esquimaux in build, he has become quite popular
in this country as a companion and show dog. The true Samoyed
has a double pure white coat--the outer one of glistening
hairs standing off from the body, and a woolly undercoat.
Height: at shoulder 20 ins. Weight: 45 lbs."

issued in 1936. the artist is shown as Mabel Gear. The
following is shown on the back of the card:
"The loyal friend and helper of the Eskimo for generations,
the Samoyede is used for haulage and transport as well as
for hunting and is a splendid guard who will die rather than
yield. Like the Chow Chow, the Chinaman's friend, the Samoyede
also provides the Eskimo with flesh for food and fur for
clothing. It has a wonderful coat and when in good condition
and full coat looks magnificent. Although only of medium
height, it possesses very powerful shoulders and its strength
and endurance are amazing."

Players put out this set titled 'Dogs Heads by Biegel'
in 1940. The reverse side of the card has the following:
"As befits a dog whose habitat is Siberia, the Samoyed is
possessed of a most profuse and beautiful coat. It is very
popular here in Britain, both as a show dog and as a
house-dog, but in its native country its uses are surprisingly
varied. It is used to herd reindeer, to pull sledges, to
guard camps and to hunt sable. In addition, its hair is
combed out and used to make woollen garments. Needless to
say, it is held in very high esteem by the nomadic Samoyed
tribe, from which it gets its name. Colours vary, but
all-white is the exhibitor's ideal."
Samoyed Card 13(Players Dogs Heads, 1940)... $7.95 each

Nature gave him two coats of white hair to live and work in
ice and snow. A thick short woolly undercoat with a longer
harsh hair coat growing through.
He has a high record of service to man in Polar Expeditions.

* We can take visa, mastercard, discover, or PayPal. We try to keep
all cards in stock, so we probably have the ones that you are looking
for.
* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for
club trophies as well!)
* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very
reasonable prices. On the other hand, if
you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may
find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always
count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and
the stock is not always constant.
* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for
your breed.
