This lovely photograph is from a set of cards issued by Service Line Company, in Modena Italy, in 1996. The subject is not identified and there is no description on the back of the card. The name of the Company appears with the title of the series, "Dogs & Cats"

This lovely card was issued by Gallahers to be inserted in their 10 cigarette packs in 1938. It is the only Rottweiler card that we know of. On the back, it says, "Even the experts of the canine world know practically nothing of the Rottweiler as yet. He is the very newest breed, and was first shown in England only a few months ago, when an excellent future was prophesied for him. He is certainly a very handsome fellow. His name would seem to indicate that he comes from the town of Rottweil, a few miles from the Swiss border. There are reputed to be only about half-a-dozen specimens in England."

Rottweiler Playing Cards

Sorry, we don't have any complete sets of playing cards. These were from collections of antique cards and there is no way of knowing how old they are or where one might find more of them. They are certainly a part of Rottweiler history.


This Rottweiler is from a deck of playing cards that was issued a couple of years ago with a bunch of different breeds on it. The Queen of Hearts is the appropriate card for the lovely Rottie.

This is playing card size, but has information regarding the breed on the back. "Character: The Rottweiler is a German Working dog of high intelligence and good temperament. It has been a draught dog and herder, and is still used as guard, police dog, sled dog, and mountain rescue dog. In many countries it is sought after as a companion pet and guard. It is a popular contender in the show ring and does well in obedience tests.
Coat: Medium length, coarse hair, lying flat against the body. Colour black with tan to mahogany markings.
Size: 40-50 kg
Country Origin: Germany"

This playing card was issued in 1996 by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. It was printed in Belgium and the lovely illustrations were done by Tomas Markevicius as part of the Dogs of the World Card Collection. The Rottweiler is appropriately the six of hearts. To the right is a copy of the back of the cards from this set.

This deck of cards was produced in Japan several years ago. There are several breeds in the deck and each breed is sold as a single card separately. The Rottweiler in it is the Eight of Spades.
