Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Eire

This gorgeous stamp was issued in Ireland in 1983. It is part of a minisheet that showed other dogs from Ireland, like the Irish Terrier, Irish Wolfhound, the Irish Water Spaniel, and both the Irish Setter and Red and White Setter. It comes from a beautiful and expensive set.

Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Bapoha Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Ingushia

This stamp from the Russian local state of Bapoha was issued recently. The Russian economy is subject to so much inflation that the stamps that used to be used to mail a letter are no longer of sufficient value. So, the government has taken four stamps and stamped an overprint on them with a new value. This way, the new "stamp" (made up of five old ones) has a value sufficient to mail a letter. It also makes a new topical that people will buy just to own rather than use the associated postal service. This brings hard currency to the country at very little cost. The last time that I got in Russian overprints, I sold them thinking that they would be available for ever. I have never been able to get any more of those issues. For that reason, I have no idea how long these will be available. They come in a set of 5 "stamps" in five different colors (red, green, turquoise, dark blue and tan)
On the right is an attractive stamp from the Russian Republic of Ingushia, near Chechnea. It is a lovely portrait of a mother Kerry Blue and her litter of puppies. It is obviously the basis for the overprint on the Russian stamp on the left.

Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Dagestan Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Ingushetia Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Karakalpakia

The economy in Russia since the break up of the Soviet Union has such high inflation that stamps that were previously issued are not of enough value to mail a letter any more, so to remedy the situation, the local Post Offices have taken blocks of five "old" printed stamps and overprinted them with a new image and a new value. The Kerry Blue Terrier shown above in the middle is one of these "Russian Overprints" from Dagestan. These 'overprints' stamps come in a set of five different colored stamps all with the same overprint. Last time that I got in some overprints, I assumed that they would remain available. I was wrong and I never saw more copies of those. I expect these to be equally as rare and collectable. There is no telling how many of the overprints they produced (not many), since they were never designed to be sold on the world market. They are of value only for a short while until the actual stamps can be printed. On the left is the stamp that was ultimately issued with the Kerry Blue Terrier image from the overprint, put out by Dagestan. (OK, I know that this one says Airedale Terrier in the corner, but we have found that some countries are notoriously bad about identifying the breeds of dogs on their stamps. For instance we have an obvious Irish Terrier that is listed on the stamp as an Irish Setter and a Basset that is supposed to be a tri-colored Dachshund apparently. This looks like a surprisingly good Kerry Blue to me and it should probably be included in any complete collection. Maybe even more so, since it is misidentified.)
On the right is the same stamp issued by Karakalpakia.
Karakalpakia, now under the domain of Uzbekistan, is on the edge of the shrinking Aral Sea, which has recently revealed a shocking scale of environmentally induced disease. Women and children are most severely affected from the spread of pesticides and other pollutants as the lake - once the fourth largest in the world - has turned into a desert, its waters siphoned off to irrigate vast cotton fields and rice paddies in Central Asia. Over 20 per cent of the young women, aged 13-19, have kidney disease, and another 23 per cent suffer from thyroid dysfunctions. And many women have high levels of lead, zinc and strontium in their blood. Although the Aral Sea probably has less than 10 years of life left, if nothing is done to salvage what remains of it, the 1.1 million residents of Karakalpakia are under immediate health threats. If nothing is done to improve the health of the people we may be witnessing the end of another entire society as a result of human folly. These stamps from Dagestan and Karakalpakia were issued in 1999.

Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Karalia Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Karalia

These last two beautiful stamps come from Karelia in Russia. They are overprints just like the one above and come in five different colored backgrounds each. These are one of the best buys in Kerry Blue Terriers since there were a very limited number printed and when they are gone, they are gone.

Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Touva Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Touva Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Touva

A lot of very nice stamps have come from Touva recently. The right and left stamps were issued in 2000. The middle one a year earlier in 1999.
Touva (often spelled Tuva) is a country in the southern area of Siberia. It's a unique place with the landscapes ranging from the desert to the permafrost, and local fauna-from camels to reindeers. Touva is known as almost the only place in the world where shamanism, a very ancient religion, is preserved, kept and cultivated in its original form.
The republic of Touva lies at the upper reaches of the Siberian Yenisey River and forms a barrier between Russia and Mongolia. Since its independence from the former Soviet Union, Tuva continues to struggle to work on the appropriate way to safeguard and develop its own identity and sovereignty going through the difficult changes from a command-orientated planned economy towards an open market economy. Like so many other former Russian states, the diversity of the people is starting to be felt as the original culture, traditions and religion are gaining more followers.

Kerry Blue Terriers stamp from Udmurtia

Udmurtia is approximately midway between Moscow to the Urals. Its land is a hilly wooden plain with numerous swamps, springs and rivers. Its climate is considered a bit too wet and not healthy. Summer is short, rainy and cool; autumn is very cloudy (often there are almost no sunny days from October till January), foggy and rainy. This not very friendly land was originally inhabited by Udmurts (or Votyaks). These peaceful and quiet Finnish people maintained their culture heritage there at least for five thousand years. Their religion is also ancient. They worship the God (called Inmar, The Highest Being) and His assistants governing various elements. With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Udmurtia became one of the local republics and as such they now issue stamps including this lovely Kerry Blue Terrier in 2001.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or paypal but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested.

* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for your breed.
