Dandie Dinmont stamp from Bhutan

The artists sketch of the Dandie Dinmont was issued by Bhutan in 1997.
Bhutan is a tiny, landlocked country, squeezed between China and India, the two most populous countries. It takes its native name -- Druk Yul -- from the fierce storms that sweep down out of the Himalayan Mountains. Druk Yul means "land of the thunder dragon." Bhutan is the last surviving Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas and its deeply devout Buddhist culture bears a strong resemblance to that found in Tibet. Wary of foreign influence, Bhutan has full diplomatic ties with only 16 countries and sightseers were barred from the country until 1974. Even now, Bhutan limits the number of tourists to just 4,000 a year.

Dandie Dinmont stamp from Dagestan Dandie Dinmont stamp from Komi Dandie Dinmont stamp from Chuvashia

The economy in Russia since the break up of the Soviet Union has such high inflation that stamps that were previously issued are not of enough value to mail a letter any more, so to remedy the situation, the local Post Offices have taken blocks of five "old" printed stamps and overprinted them with a new image and a new value. The Dandee Dinmont shown above in the middle is one of these "Russian Overprints" from Komi. These stamps come in a set of five different colored stamps all with the same overprint. (Detail to the right.) Last time that I got in some overprints, I assumed that they would remain available. I was wrong and I never saw more copies of those. I expect these to be equally as rare and collectable. There is no telling how many of the overprints they produced (not many), since they were never designed to be sold on the world market. They are of value only for a short while until the actual stamps can be printed. On the right is the stamp that was ultimately issued with the Dandee Dinmont image from the overprint, put out by Chuvashia.
The stamp on the left is the same image as the overprint from Komi except this stamp was issued by Dagestan.
Dagestan is one of the republics of the former USSR. Located between the Caspian Sea on the East and Caucasus mountains on the West, it is probably one of the most attractive places in that part of the globe. Its area is close to that of Scotland. With population of just above 2 million people, Dagestan is the homeland to over 36 different nationalities, and each one of those nationalities has its own unique language. Such combination of languages, cultures, types of landscape and customs makes it a one of a kind place in the world. These days, however, Dagestan is going through the times of heavy unrest, both political and ethnical.
Chuvashia borders both of Russia’s European and Asian regions along one of the major tributaries of the Volga River. Chuvashia’s hops production and the locals’ love of beer has earned the republic the nickname of "Russia’s Bavaria." Chuvash people are Turkish; strangely they are not Muslim but Christian orthodox.
The Komi Republic is situated in the extreme North-East part of Russia. It is a multinational state, since the population of Komi Republic is estimated at 1.2 million citizen and consists of 100 nationalities. The Komi Republic is now a democratic legal state included into the Russian Federation. The republic has unique stocks of mineral resources thanks to their location, diversity and quality. The mineral resources of Komi Republic are represented by combustible minerals, oil and gas, metal ores, minerals and balneological resources.
The color stamps will be available for some time, but the Overprint was never meant to be sold on the open collector's market, so when the few copies that I have are gone, there will be no more ever.

Dandie Dinmont stamp from Czechoslavakia

Czechoslovakia issued this great sketch in 1965.
The Czech Republic is a landlocked republic in Central Europe, comprising the historic regions of Bohemia and Moravia and Silesia. The new state a democratic republic known as Czechoslovakia was broken up during World War II, but was re-established at the end of the war in 1945. From 1948 to 1989 the republic was ruled by a communist regime. In November 1989 the Communist government was ousted and Czechoslovakia again became a democratic state. During the 1990s, political and economic conflicts developed between the Czechs and Slovaks, and leaders of both groups decided to dissolve the Republic. In January 1993 Czechoslovakia was replaced by two independent states, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Czech Republic has relatively few natural resources and is heavily dependent on imported energy and raw materials. It has a humid, continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Prague is the Capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. The official language is Czech, a language of the West Slavic subgroup of slavic languages. The principle religion is Christianity. About 40% Roman Catholic. Protestant 3% and about 5% are atheist. Prior to World War II the country had a large Jewish population. Most of the Jews died in the Holocaust, the Nazi campaign to exterminate the Jews of Europe. Pork is a staple in their diet which resembles that of Germany. Traditionally the Czech lands have been among the most economically developed regions of Europe.

Dandie Dinmont stamp from St. Vicent & the Grenadines

This drawing of a Dandee Dinmont with the 'soulful' look was issued on a stamp by St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 1998.
Caribs were the first inhabitants of St. Vincent. Columbus marked the presence of the island on his third voyage in 1498, but didn't go ashore. The Caribs were tenacious, keeping the European conquistadors at bay longer than on any other island.
In 1787, Captain William Bligh set sail from England on the Bounty, bound for Tahiti. The purpose of the voyage, which ended in mutiny, was to collect breadfruit plants and transport them to St. Vincent for use as food for slaves. In 1793 Bligh eventually arrived in St. Vincent on another ship loaded with breadfruit seedlings. The fruit would make the island famous. To this day, bananas are the main export from the island.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines achieved independence in 1979. The islands have produced many stamps over the years, including this Australian Terrier from 1998.

Dandie Dinmont stamp from Touva

The Republic of Touva issued this darling stamp in 1999.
Touva (often spelled Tuva) is a country in the southern area of Siberia. It's a unique place with the landscapes ranging from the desert to the permafrost, and local fauna-from camels to reindeers. Touva is known as almost the only place in the world where shamanism, a very ancient religion, is preserved, kept and cultivated in its original form.
The republic of Touva lies at the upper reaches of the Siberian Yenisey River and forms a barrier between Russia and Mongolia. Since its independence from the former Soviet Union, Tuva continues to struggle to work on the appropriate way to safeguard and develop its own identity and sovereignty going through the difficult changes from a command-orientated planned economy towards an open market economy. Like so many other former Russian states, the diversity of the people is starting to be felt as the original culture, traditions and religion are gaining more followers.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or a paypal, but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested.

* Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for your breed.
