stamps that had been printed were no longer
worth enough to mail a letter. In desparation,
the governments took blocks of five stamps,
overprinted them with a new image and a new
value and sold them for long enough to be able
to print the new stamps that were due to come
out (the one on the left from Abkhazia). This
was a one time production and these overprints are destined to
become collectors' items in a very short time.
The overprints come as a set of five stamps in
five different colors with the same overprinted
image like the set shown to the right.

This new Russian stamp
is from Karelia. Karelia is on
the northwest corner of Russia, bordering Finland, which it
once belonged to. I am tempted to believe that the picture
may be a Xolo, instead of a Chinese Crested, because of the
lack of furnishings.

and mostly surrounded by Sharjah. Like most of the country, Ajman is in the process
of changes which amount to a transformation. The central area is rapidly being
modernized and it is clear that Ajman has no intention of being left behind the
other Emirates. It is here that the Victory speedboats are built and Ajman is
determined to enjoy a share of the United Arab Emirates' victories for itself.

This beautiful souvenir sheet is from Cambodia and was issued in 1997. It is my
favorite of all the Chinese Crested stamps, partly because it is the only Crested
stamp to include the Powder Puff variety with the hairless. Except for the souvenir sheet, only the hairless variety has
been represented on stamps. To the left is a
detail of the Powder Puff Chinese
Crested and I think he is absolutely adorable. What a lovely way to finish a
Chinese Crested set of stamps!

It is in commemoration of the Chinese Dragon Boat Races that took place in Hong
Kong February 18-21, 1994. The Chinese Crested is in the lower left corner and
was included in the set since 1994 was the Year of the Dog. To the left is a
detail of the stamp with the Chinese Crested on it. I especially like the
classic dragon background on this stamp.
