Borzoi Wish List
Russian Wolfhounds
Borzoi are blessed with one of the largest selections of stamps available for any breed. We also have the advantage of having some of the most avid collectors for any breed. Well, here is a collection that I believe is up to date with just about every Borzoi stamp and paper item that I can find!

Borzoi Wish List
These are stamps and items that are not available under normal circumstances to the Borzoi stamp collector, but should be shown just so that we know what ones to still look for.

Borzoi or Russian
Wolfhound stamp from private kennel The stamps shown above were privately printed for the kennels who owned the dogs shown. The company that did it was called Letterface and from what I understand, it was run by two women who made quite a business of it in Sweden. I have searched diligently to find the company to be able to offer it to my readers, but they have apparently gone out of business. Maybe it was not as successful as imagined. Anyway, these are lovely examples of what can be done for your own kennel if we had a company to do it. I was given this information on the stamp on the left: "Majorow is a kennel in Sweden with a very typcial Continental look."

So there you have it. If anybody has any others that they have had printed privately, we would love to add them to this page.

Wolfhound stamp from Sierra Leone
Gosh, Borzoi or Russian
Wolfhound stamp from Sierra Leone what to say about this souvenir sheet? I have finally been sent a color copy of it, shown to the right. I have not seen one in person, but I know that it is out there and would be a priceless addition to anybody's collection. It was issued in 1989 by Sierra Leone in honor of Emperor Hirohito, who died in 1989. The painting is by Sieho and is called "Dozing in the midst of all the chirping."

Borzoi or Russian
Wolfhound stamp from Nanjing China
This is a "stamp" from Nanjing China. At first, I thought that it was a local stamp, but somebody who can read it tells me that "The Nanjing stamp is from a matchbox! I have a post-doctoral fellow in my laboratory who told me the vertical writing says Russian herd dog (I guess it's as close as they could get). The horizontal writing says Match Factory." So apprently this isn't a postage stamp at all.
I have never seen another copy.
My thanks to Susan Shoaf for the informaiton. There are two other match box covers from Europe on the Borzoi Cards page that are still available.

Wolfhound stamp from Russia
The new Russian Overprints that are shown above in the stamp page, were not the first ones issued by the Russian state. The two shown here were put out in 1993. I received a couple of copies and assumed that they would be available for some time. I was very wrong. I never saw another copy of them and now only have the scans. I was afraid that the same thing would happen to the new ones and apparently my fears were grounded in fact. I am aware of 100 sets of each one that were brought into this country. I managed to acquire 10 of each and when they are gone, just like the two shown here, there will be no more.

Borzoi card from England
This card is from Germany. The back of the card is printed entirely in German. There are a few words close enough to English to determine that it is a cigarette card.

This History of France has the image of white Sighthounds around the king's throne, which is exactly where they should be. One can't be sure that they are Borzoi, since they do not seem to have the long coats, but they are surely a close relative.

* We can take visa/mc/disc or paypal, but they are first come first served, so let me know if you are interested.

Truly one of the cheapest unique treats for yourself or a friend (great for club trophies as well!)

* It is absolutely true that you will often find some of these stamps at very reasonable prices -- some can be had for under a dollar. On the other hand, if you add in the gas, hours, and hassles that it has taken to find them, you may find it easier to just get them from us while we have them :*) I don't always count on getting more in the near future. I get them when I can find them and the stock is not always constant.

* I do have other breeds available. Let me know and perhaps I can do a page for your breed.
